Eucalyptus Oil, obtained from Blue Mallee species, is an aromatic pale yellow oily liquid comprised of mainly 1,8-cineole, more than 80.0% (w/w). 1,8-cineole has a cyclic ether in a monoterpene skeleton. The chemical designation is 1,3,3-Trimethyl-2-oxabicyclo(2.2.2)octane. It is a clear liquid; melting point 1.5 C, boiling point 176 C; slightly soluble in water; miscible with ether, ethanol and chloroform. It has a pleasant spicy odor and taste. It is found in many mouthwash products, cough drops, liniments, and inhalants. It is used as an ingredient of flavorings, fragrances (soaps, detergents and toiletries), and cosmetics. | ||
